Entry #2 Color Theory

Something that I have always been curious about or recall? Something I consider a bad trait of mine is that I don’t have a sense of getting answers to subjects that make a big question mark pop up in my head (which is a common occurrence). I love the idea of learning something new, but it’s difficult to venture off from the comfort I live inside of.

Expect one area of knowledge I recall is Color Theory. A couple years ago I used to be an artist and even made an instagram account for. Although I left most of my art hobbies behind, as well as not being the best as I “quit” before I could really start learning to draw properly. It is something I look fondly back on as well as cringe at. Drawing was one of the only things I put in creative effort in and just by going through the process, exceeded beyond what I thought I would ever be capable of. One of many things I never got far in was, Color Theory.

Learning on how the little changes in filtering can vastly change the way your art looks like really put me in an odd place. Although testing the way different layering options work had it’s fun moments, it was hard to make my drawings look consistent even when the color palette I chosen for the base colors looked fine at the time. Knowing how to give your work a more cool or warm tone with each color and make it all somehow fit together was hard. Even with watching videos about the color wheel, the mood certain colors bring, saturation and etc. I came to have more respects for the patience and knowledge those who work with paints and other art methods when it comes to mixing colors you wouldn’t think went together and ended up making sense.

As the saying goes, “Trust the process.”

  1. Color theory is very interesting and something I also really wanna learn. It might seem like something so simple to some but can be a very complex topic to learn. Different colors and shades can completely change art pieces to have a different effect on people.

  2. Angelica--Your blog is looking pretty good so far. You have some interesting content and the start of good visual engagement, but your images on both entries are broken. Make sure you are uploading images, not just copy/paste. Keep working to make connections to your audience through analysis, significance, support, and layout. Keep it up!

  4. Hi Angelica! It is so interesting to see how color theory works and the knowledge behind it. This blog post reminded me of this TikTok I watched once where a man tried to mix a bunch of colors (following the rules of color theory of course) to match the color of the object behind it and it was so cool to see how all these colors mixed together created this one specific color.
