Entry #1 World of Reading

Hello, My name is Angelic Flores! A little fun fact and story is that my middle name Guadalupe (the Virgin Mary) came about because after my mom gave birth to me, she got sick and my grandma said to give me the name Guadalupe as a way to uplift her sickness. Thankfully, my mom did get better afterwards, but the fact that there was more context to my middle name than just my family being religious interested me.

Something about me is that I really like to read! I spend almost all my time reading fictional stories and getting caught up in what another person has written. However, I would like to read more non-fiction not just to feel more grounded with the actual world around me but to also learn new things that I feel I should have known by now.

Back in middle school when I just started getting into the habit of reading (willingly) I usually went with romance, a typical but fair choice for reading at that time I suppose. Now that I have a bit more experience and read a bit of everything, I now know what I like and don’t like. I’m not a fan of books that are history based for one, and I absolutely despise books written in first and second person. Though sadly, most- if not all the books that have peaked my interest are in first/second person. I understand that authors want to make the readers feel connected with the characters but it just gives me what I’d image a sports fan would feel when they see a player on their favorite team do something that ends up costing the team. That’s perhaps the closest example I could think of that would unravel similar feelings.

Besides my dislikes in novels, I enjoy thriller and mystery genres! It could be that I like seeing other people solve complicated puzzles knowing I very much cannot. I did for a time watch tons of true crime videos until it felt odd and would give me too much paranoia. Being aware of what can happen to other people and learn to be careful is important but it is not healthy to always think of the negative impacts in life if you want to actually live a proper life.

Like other book lovers, I dream of having my own mini library someday. I think showing an example one is the perfect place to leave off.

  1. omg we’re complete opposite on the point of views. I love 1st person so much especially when it comes to romance and they give input on both sides and what they thought. With third person i dont feel pulled in as much as 1st person but of course i respect your opinion because with third person you can see it as how it really is without another persons opinion at times. My favorite genres are far from thriller and mystery but i know they’re so good and all the ones i find aren’t the best so if you do have some recs Im happy to search them up and read them. I am very open minded with books. OH and with not liking history books i actually kind of really do and I have some books i would recommend if you wish to explore some in case you have nothing to read. (i also want a little library)
